'Design: living in a material world'

Sotheby's Auction House, London, 17-10-2017

This morning we made a visit to Sotheby's and we were given a tour by Cataloguer Natasza Wojcik who gave us a better insight on the pieces and the stories behind them.

The exhibition 'Design: living in a material world' has been curated by Tony Chambers, editor in chief of wallpaper magazine. 150 carefully selected pieces present the exceptional use of materials and technology over the past 70 years.

The pieces and the curation capture the idea of design being combination of emotion, ideas, materials and technological development which we have all become more sensitive to in this digital age.

Some of our favourite pieces were Piere Jeanneret's armchairs which were designed for the High Court in India and the striking cabinetry piece by Studio Job who used traditional French cabinetry craftmenship and shocking patterns.
