Hazel, a light and breezy all-day dining experience located within AC by Marriott, just off George Square on the edge of Merchant City.

'A light and breezy all-day dining experience.'

This great central location, and sitting proudly within AC by Marriott, gave Hazel prominence, and yet it has managed to retain a tasteful subtleness.

The AC by Marriott building is one of the largest and historic buildings on the edge of Merchant City.

The hotel is sympatric to its surroundings which again contributed to the subtleties of Hazel as Merchant City is one of the city's historic quarters.

'A hidden gem!'

Just on from the iconic George Square – one of Glasgow’s focal points, the building is easy to find, yet discreet, which could make Hazel a hidden gem.

Our first impressions of Hazel were airy, neutral, comfortable, clean, and new. At the time we’d visited, the restaurant had only been open for 2 weeks.

The environment was calm, a place where you felt like shouting or raising your voice wasn’t necessary. There wasn’t any loud background music, which allowed us to lean into this atmosphere and embrace it.

'the hotel displayed some richer fabric choices.'

The design of the restaurant incorporated a light wooden pallet and simple fabrics in neutral colours. Generous seating variations, and plenty of space.

The main dining chairs highlighted a strong Scandinavian design paired with forest green and brown leather. This design tied in beautifully with the feature tree and the overall look and feel.

The area of Hazel that joined the restaurant to the hotel displayed some richer fabric choices and bolder seating arrangements, which worked well as a threshold between the restaurant and the hotel.

Something that caught our eye was the table tops and well-designed graphic menus, which detailed Hazel’s narrative. This helped bring the identity of the restaurant together and made it clear that the colour pallet used in the design of the restaurant had been considered when the menus and uniform were designed too.

The service we received as soon as we stepped into the hotel was warm, welcoming, and friendly.

The staff were all dressed in smart uniforms, branding Hazel as a hotel dining experience. Moving onto the food and service, similarly to the design of the restaurant, the food was well-presented, and the service was seamless.

We enjoyed impressive-sized sandwiches and a great selection of desserts.

'Hazel is somewhere we’d visit again.'

Here is the delicious sticky toffee pudding, on a bed of salted caramel butter sauce with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Overall, our experience of restaurant Hazel was enjoyable, the presentation and service elevated our experience, Hazel is somewhere we’d visit again.
