Montmartre Apartment, Paris

A parisian Pied-á-Terre

From one of our long-term hospitality clients we were commissioned to give an existing historic apartment a new lease on life, to better represent the owner's success and lifestyle.

This refurbishment in the heart of Montmartre required opening up the living room to create a live-in kitchen perfect for hosting friends and family while taking in the breath-taking views across Paris. The brief was to maintain the history and prestige of the building and architecture, enhancing key features such as the working fireplace and concealing technology and screens.

Enabling the homeowner to work from home and enjoy relaxing with a film was key to the brief but as entertaining and creating a relaxed space were also important, the design had to carefully consider sofas, occasional seating, bespoke joinery, bar seating and light levels throughout the space and time of day.

Overall view into the lounge area

the lounge

Boasting the best views, the lounge has drawn influence from the white marble fireplace across the space; with a white travertine stone coffee table amongst the sofa and chair seating in the centre of the room. The floor to ceiling curtains elongate the perceived height of the room, along with the introduction of a lower-level seated sofa and panelling to the lower half of the walls only.

All joinery throughout was designed and built bespoke, and the private reading nook is idyllic for gazing upon the City. A false beam was designed in-front of the custom bookcase to discreetly hide the projector screen that, when in use draws down in front of the books. The chevron wood floor panelling is a light oak finish which ensures so the palette remains neutral, clean and minimal with the impact being delivered in the décor and kitchen.

The Kitchen

The kitchen was upgraded with reeded oak-fronted cupboards, a mixture of glass fronts and wooden; it feels very mid-century meets rustic family kitchen. It feels like home; it’s a working kitchen for this restaurant-group owner. The bar seating is designed for more casual meals or snacks and an additional dining table remains close by for sit down dinners.

The Bedroom & Ensuite

The bedroom takes inspiration and touches from both reception rooms; it features cornice detailing, full length drapes, wood flooring and a wall-to-wall headboard extending around both bedside tables and upholstered in same fabric as the bed. Mid-Century side tables, natural wood shelf and modern ceiling lights.

The ensuite is designed with a more ‘Paris’ inspiration with the brass detailing light and mirror, above the white marble surface and natural wood fronted cupboards. The layout was reconfigured to allow for a new bathtub and shower and bathroom features mint-coloured Zelig tiles.

“The Montmartre Apartment is a cosy space with incredible views. It was important to add the historic details from the building’s architecture and reflect the lifestyle of the owner. We’re delighted with the execution and the end result; all bespoke joinery hiding away cables, screens and projectors keep the space much more quiet and calm”.
